Molecor opened its Alaşehir production plant in Manisa, Türkiye, on 22 October 2026. Plastipak opened its PET Material Center in Verbania, Italy, on 14 October. Both projects carry an investment figure of about €25 million. They are not the same kind of plant, and the distinction matters.

Molecor has commissioned a pipe manufacturing site. Plastipak has added a material centre for a specified PET formulation. The announcements establish investment, location, product scope and opening ceremonies. They do not establish full operating rate, annual capacity, customer qualification volume or the date of the next expansion step.

Molecor's Alaşehir plant

Molecor Türkiye (Molecor's Turkish O-PVC pipe manufacturing operation) built the Alaşehir facility on a 12,500-square-metre site. The company said the first phase creates 44 direct jobs. The investment is approximately €25 million.

The plant will manufacture TOM O-PVC pipes using Molecor's orientation technology. The stated product range runs from DN 90 to DN 800 in diameter and from PN 12.5 to PN 25 in pressure class. The pipe is intended for drinking-water transmission and distribution, agricultural irrigation, pumping and other pressurised-water systems.

Those dimensions define what the site is equipped to address. They do not disclose a nameplate tonnage or a line-by-line output target. A plant opening is therefore the confirmed event; a production ramp remains the next test.

The company's Turkish management described the investment as a local production move tied to water and energy efficiency. Public officials linked it to technology transfer, import reduction, export potential and regional development. Those are stated objectives, not measured results from the new site.

Molecor's public announcement identifies the facility and its address in Kavaklıdere, Alaşehir. It also places the opening within the company's international production network. The announcement does not set a first shipment date, a customer order book or a utilisation target.

Plastipak's Verbania material centre

Plastipak Packaging Inc. (the packaging and recycling company operating across PET materials, preforms and packaging) opened its Verbania centre after investing more than €25 million. The facility manufactures pakPET Single Pellet Solution.

The product contains 30% recycled content in one pellet. Plastipak positions the formulation as a ready-to-use PET material that combines virgin-PET performance with built-in recycled content. The company says the single-pellet format is compatible with existing PET processing operations and is intended to simplify processing and support consistent packaging performance.

The formulation is aimed at food and beverage containers, home and personal-care packaging, pharmaceutical packaging and thermoforming. The company also states that applicable packaging uses have food-contact approval and that post-consumer feedstock traceability is certified under EN 15343.

The centre's product claim is more specific than a general recycled-content announcement. The relevant object is the pellet, not a plant-wide recycled-PET output figure. Plastipak has stated the recycled-content percentage and the intended processing benefit. It has not stated annual resin capacity, a production ramp, sales volume or the number of customers qualified at Verbania.

The Verbania opening also extends Plastipak's existing combination of recycling, resin production, preform manufacturing and packaging production. The centre adds a material step to that chain. It does not, on the disclosed figures, prove how much additional recycled PET the site will place into the market.

Two investments, two open measurements

The disclosed investment amounts are comparable, but the assets are not. Molecor's figure supports a new pipe plant with a defined dimensional and pressure range. Plastipak's figure supports a PET material centre with a defined 30% recycled-content product.

The money is close. The operating evidence is not. Molecor has disclosed the plant area and first-phase employment, while Plastipak has disclosed the formulation and its processing position. Neither announcement supplies annual capacity.

That gap matters to processors and converters. A pipe buyer can identify the nominal diameter and pressure classes available from Molecor, but cannot yet measure delivery scale from the opening notice. A PET converter can identify the 30% recycled-content single-pellet proposition from Plastipak, but cannot yet judge supply depth or qualification throughput from the centre's inauguration.

What the openings do not prove

Molecor's next claim to establish will be production at commercial scale in the stated TOM range. The company has not published a tonnage figure or a start-up schedule in the announcement. Its statement that employment will grow as production volume rises remains a company target.

Plastipak's next claim to establish will be repeatable supply of the 30% recycled-content pellet through existing PET operations. The company describes drop-in compatibility and manufacturing efficiency, but the opening notice does not report a converter trial, line validation result or commercial volume.

The two projects should therefore be filed as operational openings with different evidence limits. Turkey has a named O-PVC pipe asset, a site area, an initial workforce and product boundaries. Italy has a named PET material asset, a recycled-content percentage and a stated formulation route. Neither has yet supplied the plant number that would turn an inauguration into a capacity story.

The next closing, start-up or earnings date was not disclosed for either facility.

Editorial Insights

What should a pipe buyer verify before treating the new O-PVC site as a dependable second source?
Ask for the commercial production schedule, line-by-line capacity, available DN and PN combinations, lead times, and references from qualified shipments. The published diameter and pressure ranges define the product envelope, not the volume that can be delivered during ramp-up. A common mistake is to approve the nominal range, place a large project order, and discover that the required pressure class or delivery window is not yet running at repeatable output.
Does a 30% recycled-content PET pellet remove the need for converter qualification?
No. Run the pellet through the actual dryer, injection or extrusion settings, mould, and performance tests used for the target package. Food-contact approval and certified feedstock traceability address compliance and origin; they do not prove identical IV, colour, acetaldehyde, process stability, or top-load performance on every line. The friction usually appears when a material is called drop-in before the converter has fixed the validation window and recorded which setpoints may change.
Which documents turn the recycled-content claim into a usable purchasing specification?
File the technical data sheet, current CoA requirements, recycled-content declaration, EN 15343 traceability evidence, food-contact documentation for the intended use, and the change-notification rule. Specify the acceptable process and package-performance limits rather than buying against “30% recycled content” alone. Otherwise, a buyer can receive material that meets the headline percentage while variation in colour, intrinsic viscosity, or contaminant control creates scrap downstream.
How should finance compare the two investments without overstating their operating value?
Separate asset cost from demonstrated output. The pipe project should be assessed against qualified pipe volume by diameter and pressure class; the PET centre against repeatable pellet supply, qualification throughput, and usable recycled-content volume. Do not convert similar investment figures into similar capacity or payback assumptions. The usual error is to treat an inauguration as evidence of utilisation, then build coverage or import-reduction savings into a budget before a first commercial run and shipment history exist.
What is the remaining operational risk after the PET formulation is described as compatible with existing equipment?
Keep the existing line checks. Confirm drying behaviour, melt filtration, processing window, colour and odour, bottle or preform dimensions, and finished-package testing under normal and upset conditions. Compatibility is credible only after the converter defines acceptance limits and assigns an owner to approve setpoint changes. A formulation may run on the same equipment yet lose value through slower cycles, higher rejection, or a narrow window that operators cannot hold across lots.
